G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT)
In the year 1960, G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) was established in its birthplace located in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, India. India’s first agricultural university, it is also the forerunner of agricultural education, research, and outreach there. GBPUAT is a well-known producer of farming products, the so-called Harbinger of the Green Revolution. It is the university that has been contributing its part to changing the agricultural scenario of Indian society through technological development and many other advancements. In fact, the university has done magnificently in providing high-yielding crop varieties, precision farming techniques, and environmentally friendly agricultural practices.
Global Collaboration in Agriculture Education and Research
In our conversation, Prof. Prasad Shiva H. J., currently serving as the Director of International Affairs at G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT), Pantnagar, shared insights into the university’s expanding global collaborations.
Prof. Neena Mitter from Charles Sturt University undertook an interactive and exploratory collaborative visit to G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT), Pantnagar, on the occasion of the 17th Asian Science Congress (ASC) 2025. During her visit, an International Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between GBPUAT and Charles Sturt University (CSU) under the able leadership of Honorable Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Manmohan Singh Chauhan.
This MoU marks a significant step in fostering collaboration in academics, research, and allied fields of mutual interest. Recognizing the crucial role of higher education, research, and innovation in agriculture and technology for sustainable development, both institutions have agreed to establish a cooperative framework. The collaboration will focus on:
- Joint research projects addressing emerging challenges in agriculture and technology.
- Faculty and student exchange programs to enhance academic exposure and knowledge sharing.
- Organization of academic events such as seminars, conferences, and workshops.
- Resource and expertise sharing to strengthen research and innovation capacities.
Prof. Neena Mitter’s visit and discussions on academic, scientific, technical, and cultural collaborations were coordinated by Dr. Prasad Shiva H. J., Director, International Affairs (IA), with the support of Assoc. Prof. Anita Arya, Associate Director, IA, and Asst. Prof. Sneha Dohare, Assistant Director, IA.
This partnership between GBPUAT and CSU is expected to significantly contribute to the academic and professional development of faculty, students, and researchers while addressing global agricultural challenges through collaborative research and innovation.
