National Horticulture Fair 2025: Pioneering Innovations in Indian Horticulture

National Horticulture Fair 2025

National Horticulture Fair 2025

The National Horticulture Fair (NHF) 2025 is set to be a landmark event in India’s agricultural landscape, scheduled to take place from February 27 to March 1 at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (ICAR-IIHR) in Bengaluru. Under the theme “Horticulture for Viksit Bharat: Nutrition, Empowerment, and Livelihood,” the event aims to showcase groundbreaking innovations and technologies that will revolutionize India’s horticulture sector.

A Platform for Innovation and Collaboration

NHF 2025 is being organized in collaboration with ICAR-IIHR, the Society for Promotion of Horticulture (SPH), BESST-HORT (Technology Business Incubator ICAR-IIHR), and ICAR-ATARI Bengaluru. With over 250 exhibitors, the fair will highlight advanced horticultural technologies, including crop improvement, production, protection, post-harvest management, value addition, machinery, and tools developed by ICAR-IIHR. The event expects over 75,000 visitors, including farmers, researchers, students, and industry professionals, fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration.

Theme: Horticulture for Viksit Bharat

NHF 2025 revolves around three core aspects that define the future of Indian horticulture:

1. Nutrition:

  • Promoting nutritionally rich crops and diversifying diets to enhance national health.

2. Empowerment:

  • Equipping farmers, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, with essential knowledge, tools, and government schemes to enhance agricultural productivity.

6. Sale of Planting Materials:

  • Visitors can purchase seeds, planting materials, hybrid varieties, processed products, agricultural equipment, and machinery at the event.

Pioneering Research and Developments in Horticulture

ICAR-IIHR has developed a groundbreaking calcium-enrichment technology for elm oyster mushrooms (Hypsizygus ulmarius). The vacuum impregnation process under high pressure has resulted in a 202.27% increase in calcium concentration compared to conventional mushrooms, addressing global dietary calcium deficiency.

Additionally, ICAR-IIHR is leading the ‘Genome Editing’ project, working on 16 varieties of vegetables, fruits, and spices to develop nutrient-rich and climate-resilient crops. Key developments include:

  • Vitamin D-enriched golden yellow tomatoes.
  • Disease-resistant varieties of papaya, chili, grape, and pomegranate.
  • High-yield, climate-resilient horticultural crops.

This initiative marks a shift towards sustainable, high-nutrition, and resilient crop development for the future.
