JNCASR’s SRFP: A Flagship Programme Inspiring Young Scientific Minds Since 1991

Bengaluru: The Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) continues its legacy of nurturing future scientists through its Summer Research Fellowship Programme (SRFP)—one of the Centre’s most prestigious and long-standing initiatives, launched in 1991.

Under this flagship programme, science and engineering students at the bachelor’s and master’s levels are selected purely on merit and placed for two months of intensive research training under eminent scientists at JNCASR. The programme spans diverse disciplines including Life Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Chemical Biology, Physical Sciences, Materials Science, and Engineering Sciences, offering students early exposure to advanced research environments.

Selected fellows receive a monthly fellowship of ₹10,000, along with travel support (second sleeper train fare) for the shortest route to and from JNCASR. Since its inception, 2,672 students have benefited from SRFP, many of whom have gone on to pursue successful careers in science and engineering, holding academic and research positions in India and abroad.

The programme is widely acclaimed for inspiring students at a formative stage of their education, helping them develop a strong inclination toward scientific research and innovation.
