IKS Division Invites Research Proposals for 2026–27, Offers Grants up to ₹25 Lakh

New Delhi: The Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Division of the Ministry of Education has announced the IKS Competitive Research Proposals Program 2026–2027, inviting interdisciplinary research proposals aimed at rejuvenating and mainstreaming India’s traditional knowledge systems. The programme seeks original, high-quality research that bridges classical Indian wisdom with contemporary science and societal needs.

Under the scheme, researchers can receive funding of up to ₹25 lakh over two years. The call covers 16 thematic areas, including Agricultural Science, Medical and Health Sciences, Vedic Philosophical and Cognitive Sciences, Performing Arts, Civil and Architectural Sciences, and more. Proposals must clearly align with IKS objectives and demonstrate practical relevance and innovation.

Eligible applicants include faculty from government-recognized institutions, government-funded labs, NGOs working in IKS research, acharyas from gurukulas/pathashalas, and practicing artists with requisite experience. Collaboration with traditional scholars is strongly encouraged. Independent researchers without institutional affiliation are not eligible.

Key dates include proposal submission by 30 January 2026, announcement of awards on 27 February 2026, and fund release from 15 April 2026. Submissions will be accepted online via the IKS website, with the portal opening on 15 January 2026.

The initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and aims to generate impactful outputs—ranging from peer-reviewed publications to practical applications—while training the next generation of IKS scholars.
