India Gives a Big Boost to Agri Infrastructure

Government data shows strong implementation of the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF):

  • As of 30 June 2025, ₹66,310 crore has been sanctioned under AIF for over 1.13 lakh projects across India, with significant investment mobilised into storage, processing, and other farm-gate infrastructure — helping reduce post-harvest losses and raise farmer incomes.
  • This includes 2,454 cold storage projects sanctioned with a combined allocation of ₹8,258 crore to improve perishables handling.

📍 Punjab Leads in Utilising AIF

  • Punjab has become one of the top performers under the scheme, prompting the Centre to increase its agriculture infrastructure funding to ₹7,050 crore — recognising strong project implementation in the state.

đź’° Investments Under AIF Keep Growing

  • Across India, agricultural infrastructure proposals worth over ₹63,500 crore have been approved under the fund since its launch, supporting projects such as farm gate storage, logistics upgrades, and value-addition facilities.

📌 What AIF Is & Why It Matters

The Agriculture Infrastructure Fund is a ₹1 lakh crore central sector financing initiative aimed at boosting medium and long-term investment in post-harvest infrastructure (like cold storage, warehouses, processing units, and other farm-to-market assets). It provides affordable loans through banks/co-ops with interest subvention and credit guarantee support to farmers, FPOs, agri-entrepreneurs and start-ups.

🧑‍🌾 Impact on Farmers

  • Infrastructure built through AIF helps reduce wastage, improve value addition, and enhance market linkage — improving incomes and lowering costs for farmers.
  • By supporting community farming assets and modern storage/processing, the scheme also strengthens rural supply chains.
